Our History
On the 22nd day of October 1881, Brothers Wilson Allee, E.W. Lumpkin and R. A. Stark met with a number of baptized believers at the Pleasant Hill school house for the purpose of constitutuing them into a church.  After finding them to be in good standing and their Articles of Faith and church covenant in harmony with the Gospel, they proceeded to organize them into a church body.

It was agreed that they should build on the location given by Brother Jim Glover on the south side of the road on what is now Route D.  A frame building, 26 feet wide and 40 feet long, was planned.  It was to have three rows of seats with two aisles and with two doors in one end.

According to records, Sunday School was started at Pleasant Hill in 1896.  Mid-week prayer service started in 1935.  During a revival meeting led by the associational missionary that year, the building was remodeled and new gas lamps were purchased.  In 1936 the building was further remodeled with a bay window being built behind the pulpit and the doors moved from the end of the building to the side of the building.  The ceiling was lowered on each side. This was also the same year that Training Union was started with Ray Bates as the first director.

In 1940, the Church went half-time and the WMS was organized.  In February of 1948 the Brotherhood was organized with Frank Blank as president.  During the year electricity was brought into the community and the church was again rewired and more new light fixtures installed.

A real milestone in the history of Pleasant Hill occurred in March 1952 when the members decided there was need for building repairs and more room.  The church went full time in 1953;  In November 1955, it was decided by ballot to build the church on Highway 54.  Anna Manning graciously offered to give part of her land for the new building.  Everyone helped move into the new building on Saturday, December 14, 1957.  The old building was sold at auction for $605.  A dedication service was held May 6, 1962 after the building was finished as near as possible.

In May 1963, the church voted to build a parsonage.  At a special meeting in June it was decided to build on the church property.  The parsonage was built and a dedication service was held in January of 1964.

More remodeling was done in 1971, 1972 and 1973.  The church was air conditioned in 1981.

Pleasant Hill celebrated it’s 125th anniversary October 15, 2006.
